Hello Fellow Movie Nerds! Join us this week as we discuss two fabulous independent movies, Bound (1996), and Heavenly Creatures (1994). Andra is discussing the cult classic, Bound, as it follows the story of Corky and Violet (Vi) as they develop a romance amidst the chaos surrounding them in their neighboring Chicago apartments. This movie is among the best when it comes to the mob gangster genre, and holds its own against films like Casino (1995) and Goodfellas (1990). Shelley is discussing Heavenly Creatures (1996), a film that portrays the 1954 true crime committed by two high school girls in Christchurch, New Zealand. This was the film debut for Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey, and was directed by Sir Peter Jackson. This movie is an amazing depiction of what tragic consequences can come when two people, obsessed with each other, get caught up in fantasy and escapism.
